EUGENE, Ore. -- A Springfield man accused of faking cancer and collecting donations was arrested Tuesday.

Springfield police caught up with Charles Embleton at Lane Community College.

A grand jury charged Embleton with five counts of felony theft and one count of misdemeanor theft, after he allegedly asked church members to help him pay for treatment for cancer he didn't have.

Springfield police say church members who testified before the grand jury say they felt swindled.

Detectives say those six people weren't the only ones duped by Embleton.

Many more donated but just didn't want to go through the court process.

"There is a lot more money that we know of. We're over $10,000 that we know of, but the people that wanted to come forward brings it below the $10,000," said Springfield Police Detective Jeff Murkin.

Embleton's bail is set at $200,000, but he could be released from the Lane County Jail any time because of understaffing.

Detectives say a trial is set for Feb. 28 but it will likely be postponed until March.
