ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) ? Kyrie Irving kicked off the aerial display with an alley-oop to Paul George. Cleveland's rookie point guard then showed off his long-range shooting skills.

It was so much fun that Irving wasn't too upset that all those 3-pointers came in a meaningless game.

Irving was a perfect 8 for 8 from beyond the arc and finished with 34 points, helping Team Chuck beat Team Shaq 146-133 in the Rising Stars Challenge on Friday.

Indiana's George added 23 points but the night belonged to Irving, who picked up where another No. 1 overall pick left off in the NBA's showcase game for its first- and second-year players. Wizards point guard John Wall earned MVP honors last season when he was a rookie.

Irving said he couldn't remember being so hot from the field.

"No, it's never occurred in my career," he said. "You know, it's kind of unfortunate that it comes in the All-Star game. These stats don't carry over into the season. But at the end of the day, it was still fun to get out there with those talented guys. So it was a great experience."

Cleveland's Tristan Thompson scored 20 points to lead Team Shaq. New York Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin only had two points.

This year's Rising Stars Challenge had a different format, with the rookie and second-year players mixed together on teams for the first time. The league also inserted a little more name recognition with former stars Shaquille O'Neal and Charles Barkley serving as general managers and drafting the teams.

While the teams had a different look, there was once again no real defensive effort and plenty of fan-pleasing fast breaks and flashy play.

"It's what All-Star games are, there's not a lot of defense," Team Chuck co-head coach Maurice Cheeks said.

Lin had a relatively quiet night. His biggest highlight came early in the second half when he took a pass from Minnesota star Ricky Rubio and drove it underneath for a reverse layup.

He played just nine minutes before heading to the bench in the second half, and instead mostly yielded to the more high-flying players on his team. He took just four shots.

Landry Fields, who plays with Lin on the Knicks, remained his biggest fan, holding a "Linsanity" Time magazine cover featuring him.

"It was fun to be out there with all these guys, and this guy right here (pointing to magazine) did his thing," Fields said. "Short minutes, but he still did his thing."

Irving got the game off to a rousing start with the pass to George, and Rubio turned routine passes to his Shaq teammates into behind-the-back and between-the-leg looks.

It was part of an acrobatic early tone that was fast-paced and allowed the next generation of stars to showcase open-court and aerial skills that have already made many of them fan favorites on their respective teams.

Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin had several highlights while playing for Team Shaq, catching several alley-oops and even throwing his own pass off the glass and catching it for a dunk.

"There were a lot of dunks," Team Shaq co-head coach Ron Adams said. "I think the guys had fun. I hope we didn't set a Guinness Book of World Records record for dunks given, but it was a fun game. Interesting game."

"When you're trying to be in a championship run, you've got to steal a game somewhere," said Izzo, who has Michigan State in position for a seventh conference title in his 17th season at the school with three games to go.

Draymond Green had 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals for the Spartans (23-5, 12-3), who maintained their perfect February record despite the flawed showing. Green's only basket of the second half was a pump-fake layup that rolled on the rim and in to tie the game at 58 with 1:40 left. He was 4 for 6 from 3-point range before halftime and 1 for 8 from the field in the second half.

"Any time you can get a road win, no matter how ugly it is, it means a lot," Green said. "Especially how the race is now. We really needed this win."

The Gophers beat Michigan State 33-27 on the boards and made 14 of their 15 free throws, but they still couldn't pull out a must-win game for their dying NCAA tournament hopes.

Appling made six free throws over the final 32 seconds to seal the win and send the stunned Gophers to their 20th defeat in their last 26 Big Ten games. The Spartans haven't lost at Williams Arena in six years.

"They've got a lot of pride. They play with a lot of toughness. They play with a lot of confidence," said coach Tubby Smith, who fell to 1-11 against Michigan State in five seasons at Minnesota.

After playing a steady game at point guard for most of the night, Welch started succumbing to the Spartans' pressure. Wood turned a steal into a dunk to cut the lead to 54-52 and had consecutive layups a little later off turnovers to bring Michigan State within 58-56. Joe Coleman was called for a double dribble. Then Green maneuvered his way inside for the tying score.

Hollins lost control of his dribble on the other end, and Appling made the first two of his clinching free throws. Quintessential Motherhood ? The Welcome Home Blog

Throughout that week I wondered what the LORD would have me to write for that week?s letter.? And so, in an attempt to prepare a letter, I sat down to write.? Distractions, buzzers, timers, calls, the dryer?s beep-beep-beep, and the knocking at the back door? distractions. ?And then I thought: distractions?? No: life.? Life is what?s happening when we?re waiting and planning for something else to happen.? And then I thought on this further and wondered: is this the story of my motherhood experience?? Has it all happened while I was waiting for something else to happen?? Have the days passed by while I was looking for a brighter tomorrow and a better way of doing things? ??While hurry-scurrying around, gathering, sorting, washing, folding, packing? suddenly the time comes for a departure.

Suddenly the time-clock runs out and this game is over or the hour comes.? This is quintessential motherhood.

I came inside from the chilly porch where I hugged one of our sons and waved him good-bye-for-now.? As he drove away, the darkness giving way to light and the early morning sun casting a pink glow on the snow, tears flooded my eyes and instantly, all the compelling rush was completely forgotten in the haze of the exhaust and the taillights slowly dimming in the distance. I stood there in the cold-still waving? the asl sign for i-love-you? and found myself wondering?questioning what significant thing had I contributed to that remarkable boy?s life? ?Was there anything noteworthy?? All at once ?I thought of many things I?d forgotten to remember?things I suddenly realized I meant to say. ?Memories instantly flooded my mind ? sort of like those endearing slideshows you see at weddings ? the emotionally gripping photos that chronicle lives and bring tears and laughter simultaneously one frame after another.

Part of the calling of motherhood is that there will be suffering.? There will be days of joy and sorrow. ?Sort of that paradoxical truth that in every adversity there is triumph and in every joy there is an inextricable mix of delight and sorrow.? The sorrow part is the part we didn?t read in the fine print.? The sorrow part is one of the consequences of endearment ?one of the consequences I didn?t perhaps expect when I first received the confirmation call from the doctor?s office or when we first saw the indicator lines in the home-pregnancy test kit. ?No, in those days, we had no idea what lay ahead, what tears we?d shed or how many sleepless nights we?d spend waiting and walking.? Waiting for a child to return home or walking a crying baby from one end of the living room to the other: round and round.

No, in the early days, we had no idea what lay in store a few years down the road. ?We had no grasp of where those first baby-steps would take those feet.? We had no concept that snow-tires would eventually replace those training wheels. ?Even now, I probably have no real grasp of what the consequences of motherhood are.? Just as I can?t fathom the exhilaration of tremendous joy, I can?t fathom the plummeting sorrow?both are those inexplicable consequences of endearment and motherhood.

I?ve often said I wasn?t prepared for these years?the gripping anguish of regret and disappointment, the overwhelming joy proud moments bring and the unstoppable ticking of the clock and the turning of the calendar pages.? It seems new calendars are purchased more frequently now.? But in reality, nothing and everything prepared me for these days. The LORD has been with me, guiding, abiding and upholding me ?preparing me for each of the next days He?d bring.? The preparation has been in the living. Bidding farewell to passing seasons and ushering in new ones prepares us for these goodbyes.

It?s quintessential motherhood: fully experiencing of all the seasons over and over. Experience, history? photographs and memories all prepare us for these goodbyes. As I look out at the morning glow on the snow? and then at the leafless, frost covered branches of my weeping willow tree, there?s sort of a melancholy hopeful looking forward to what this day will bring and how I?ll one day look back on this day.

I smile as I realize that with every good bye? there?s a welcome home.? In the end, the true joy is looking to the ultimate welcome home.

ZTE Mimosa X with NVIDIA Icera modem now official

NVIDIA and ZTE have officially unveiled the ZTE Mimosa X, the first phone with a Tegra2 processor and Icera modem. NVIDIA acquired Icera in mid-2011, and we've been expecting an offering from someone with the full set of NVIDIA innards, and today we finally get to see one, or at least a picture. If you refer to an old Tegra roadmap, you'll notice that Tegra and Icera devices weren't scheduled to ship until 2013, but we're awfully glad to see them a bit early, especially when they're running Android. 

We're pretty familiar with the Tegra 2 chip, and the wonders it can do with proper software. On paper it's not the fastest beast out of the gate, but when coupled with applications designed for NVIDIA-specific multimedia and processor extensions, no other smartphone gaming platform can hold a candle to it. Beyond games, the Tegra 2 CPU offers a great high-end experience for both tablets and smartphones alike. I'm certainly a fan.

With the introduction of the Icera 450 soft modem, ZTE can introduce the same high-end performance we've grown accustomed to, and offer it with better power management, and at a more affordable price point.  The Icera 450 in the Mimosa X (best name ever) brings the following to the table:

Paul Babeu, Outed GOP Candidate, On Same-Sex Marriage: 'You Can't Legislate Love'

Republican congressional candidate Paul Babeu, who was outed as gay last week and accused of threatening his ex-boyfriend with deportation, said Monday that he supports same-sex marriage and the right of gays and lesbians to serve in the military.

"If it's not harming somebody else, than it doesn't matter," the Arizona sheriff said of same-sex marriage in an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "You can't legislate love."

Babeu also denied claims by his ex-boyfriend -- a man identified as only Jose by the Phoenix New-Times, which broke the news of the allegations -- that he and his attorney had threatened the man with deportation. Babeu acknowledged that he had had a relationship with Jose, and said it lasted for about three years.

"One, he's legal. He has said that. I've said that," Babeu said. "And then, in addition, this whole thing about deportation, we all know I don't have deportation authority. I have the authority to arrest. There were several crimes committed here against me and my campaign."

Jose volunteered for Babeu's congressional campaign, updating his website and handling social media. Babeu said that after the two had broken up, Jose committed crimes against him, including posting defamatory information online under Babeu's name. Babeu first mentioned the alleged crimes on Saturday, when he held a press conference to discuss Jose's allegations.

Babeu stepped down on Saturday from his position as Arizona co-chairman of Mitt Romney's presidential campaign. A spokeswoman for Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, said Babeu was cutting ties with the campaign in order to "focus on the allegations against him."

Babeu told CNN that Jose's claims were politically motivated, questioning why he had decided to come forward now.

"The timing of this should be clues to everyone that's listening," he said.

He also said it was not the first time he'd been attacked for being gay. During his time in the military, Babeu said, his fellow service members had reported his sexuality to higher-ups, something he said shouldn't happen as "we progress in society." When he commanded troops, he said, he knew that some of the men and women who served under him were gay, as were some of the most exemplary service members that he had met.

Same-sex marriage should be allowed in states that vote to approve it, he said, although it should not be mandated in cases where religions prohibit it.

Babeu said that being gay should not impact the way voters think of him, adding that he may work with the Log Cabin Republicans, an advocacy group for gay and lesbian Republicans, and that he wanted to focus on the issues.

"Our party is the big tent, as Ronald Reagan talked about, the party of Lincoln, of equality," he said. "This is not something I believe, in this day and age, should by itself defeat or elect any candidate, even in this Republican party."

"This is 2012. I should be judged on merit, on my performance and results," he added.
